Terms of Service

Last updated: September 28, 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) set the rules for using ExamStep (the “Service”). The Service is operated by Vancouver TESOL Training Center (VTTC), doing business as ExamStep (“we”, “us”, “our”). Creating an account or using the Service means you accept these Terms; if you do not accept them, please do not use the Service. These Terms apply to every exam we offer. This version names all of them where the earlier text named one; what either of us agrees to is the same as in the Terms dated September 16, 2026.

1. What ExamStep is

ExamStep is an independent online study resource. For each exam we cover — at present CELPIP, TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, IELTS General Training, PTE Core, Canadian Citizenship Test and CELPIP-LS for Canadian Citizenship — it offers exam-style practice, lessons and, where the exam has them, automated feedback on Writing and Speaking. Each of these is a separate product with its own passes and prices, shown on our Pricing page. We are not a testing organization: we do not run, mark or issue results for any official test. Nothing on the Service promises you a particular score, band, CLB level or pass on any of them.

ExamStep is our own independent work. No test owner or government body is connected with it, and none of them endorses, sponsors or approves it: not Paragon Testing Enterprises, Educational Testing Service (ETS), the British Council, IDP IELTS or Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and not IRCC or the Government of Canada. Every question and task on the Service is written by ExamStep.

  • CELPIP® is a registered trademark of Paragon Testing Enterprises.
  • TOEFL® and TOEFL iBT® are registered trademarks of Educational Testing Service (ETS).
  • IELTS® is a registered trademark of the British Council, IDP IELTS and Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
  • The Canadian citizenship test is set and given by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Our Citizenship Test practice is our own work, written from IRCC’s study guide Discover Canada; it is not an IRCC test and does not replace reading that guide.

2. Your account

  • The information you give when you register must be accurate, and you must keep it current.
  • What happens under your account is your responsibility, and so is keeping your password safe.
  • An account belongs to one person. You may not share it, sell it or transfer it, or the access it carries.
  • To buy a paid plan you must be old enough, where you live, to enter into a binding contract.

3. Plans, payment and access

  • A paid plan is a single payment in Canadian dollars (CAD). Plans do not renew automatically, and you will not be charged again unless you choose to buy again.
  • The length of a plan you buy (30 days, for example) is added after any access time you already hold.
  • Square, our payment provider, processes payments. Your full card details are not stored by us.
  • Prices and plan features can change, but a change never reduces access you have already paid for.

4. Refunds

Purchases are final. Because a purchase switches on AI scoring straight away, it cannot be refunded once it is made — unless you were charged twice or without your authorization, we failed to give you the access you paid for, or the law requires a refund. Anything bought before September 10, 2026 keeps the 7-day money-back guarantee it was sold with. The full policy, its exceptions and your rights under British Columbia law are set out in our Refund Policy.

5. Automated feedback (Smart Evaluation)

On an exam that tests Writing or Speaking, what you submit may receive an automated “Smart Evaluation”: suggestions plus an estimated result on that exam's own scale — a CLB level for CELPIP and CELPIP-LS, a band for TOEFL iBT and IELTS. It is a machine estimate meant to help you study. It is not an official score from any test owner, no certified human rater produced it, and it can be wrong. The same goes for the marks and pass/fail results of our Citizenship Test practice, which are not IRCC results. Do not treat any of them as a prediction of your official result.

6. Acceptable use

When you use the Service, you agree that you will not:

  • copy, scrape, redistribute or resell our questions, lessons or other content, or post them publicly;
  • give your sign-in details to anyone else, or let others use your access;
  • try to disrupt the Service, reverse-engineer it, or get into it without authorization;
  • use the Service for anything unlawful.

7. Intellectual property

Everything on the Service — questions, lessons, templates and software included — belongs to us or to those who license it to us, and the law protects it. You receive a limited, personal licence, which you may not transfer, to use that content for your own test preparation and nothing else.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

We provide the Service “as is” and “as available”, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that it will run without interruption or errors, or that it will improve your test results. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages that arise from your use of the Service, and our total liability on any claim is capped at what you paid us in the 12 months before that claim.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using the Service whenever you like. If you breach these Terms, we may suspend or end your access; when access ends because of a breach you caused, paid time is not refunded.

10. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may change from time to time, and the “Last updated” date above changes when they do. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the Terms as changed.

11. Governing law

The laws of the Province of British Columbia, and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, govern these Terms, regardless of conflict-of-laws rules.

These Terms do not take away any right that the consumer protection law of the place where you live gives you. For consumers in British Columbia, the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act applies to your purchase, and its protections cannot be waived.
