Four skills, one sitting
Practise it the way you will sit it — same order, same clock, same tools on screen.
Durations are ExamStep’s full mock, measured from the tasks themselves. The official test’s own section timings differ — check celpip.ca before test day.
Practise one skill at a time
Twelve timed tests in each skill. Start with the one holding your band back — moving a single skill up is usually the fastest route to the score you need.
Reading
Four parts, 55 minutes. Correspondence, a diagram, information and viewpoints.
Practise reading →Writing
An email and a survey response, scored on the four official criteria.
Practise writing →Listening
Six parts played once, exactly as on test day — no replays.
Practise listening →Speaking
Eight recorded tasks against the real clock, with model answers.
Practise speaking →This is what you get back.
Not a percentage. A CLB band on each of the four official writing criteria, and the sentence standing between you and the next one.
Writing Task 1 · example report
You use importantfour times. Two precise replacements is the shortest route to band 10.
What your CELPIP level means
CELPIP reports each skill from 1 to 12, and the number is the Canadian Language Benchmark. That is why immigration programmes talk in CLB rather than in percentages.
| CELPIP / CLB | Ability | Typically needed for |
|---|---|---|
| 10–12 | Advanced | Maximum Express Entry language points |
| 9 | Highly effective | The competitive Express Entry range |
| 7–8 | Adequate to good | Most Provincial Nominee streams; many PGWP routes |
| 5–6 | Developing | Some federal skilled-trades and PNP streams |
| 4 | Basic | Canadian citizenship (speaking and listening) |
Requirements change and vary by programme. Always confirm the current minimum for your own stream on the official IRCC and Paragon Testing pages before you book or apply.
Common questions
What is a good CELPIP score?
It depends what you need it for. Express Entry awards its highest language points from CLB 9 upward, which is CELPIP 9 in each of the four skills. Canadian citizenship requires CLB 4 in speaking and listening. Most provincial programmes sit between the two.
How is CELPIP scored?
Each skill is reported on a 1–12 scale that maps directly onto the Canadian Language Benchmarks. Reading and listening are marked automatically; writing and speaking are judged on content and coherence, vocabulary, readability or listenability, and task fulfilment.
How long should I prepare?
Take one timed practice test first and see where you land. Moving one CLB band typically takes a few weeks of focused work on a single skill, which is why the tests here are single-skill rather than only full mocks.
Is any of this free?
Yes — one full practice test in each of the four skills, including AI scoring on writing and speaking, so you can judge the feedback before paying for anything.
