Free CELPIP practice test: one timed test per skill, marked in CLB

Not a sample of questions — a full section in each skill, run on the real clock, with Writing and Speaking marked on the four criteria the official test uses and reported as a CLB level. This page says exactly what is in it and what the report tells you afterwards.

Free: 5 tests, one per skill · Library: 48 timed practice tests and 460 questions, each explained

What the free test contains, section by section

Each free test is a complete section of the CELPIP-General format. The timings below are the ones the runner enforces, measured from the tests themselves.

SkillLengthHow it is markedWhat the report shows
Listening6 parts · 24 minChecked against the key. Audio plays once, as it does on test day.A level, and every item you missed with the line of audio it came from.
Reading4 parts · 43 minChecked against the key: correspondence, a diagram, information, viewpoints.A level, and each wrong answer explained against the passage.
Writing2 tasks · 53 minAn email and a survey response, marked on the four official criteria.A CLB level per criterion, and the sentences that held it down.
Speaking8 tasks · 14 minRecorded against the real preparation and speaking clocks, then marked on the four official criteria.A CLB level per criterion, with fillers, pace and pauses measured.

Section lengths are those of the practice tests on this site. Paragon's published timings for the official test are Listening 46–55 minutes, Reading 43–56, Writing 53 and Speaking 15, in one sitting of under three hours.

How Writing and Speaking are marked

Paragon's official CELPIP level descriptors describe each productive skill along four dimensions — for Writing, Content/Coherence, Vocabulary, Readability and Task Fulfillment; for Speaking, Content/Coherence, Vocabulary, Listenability and Task Fulfillment. The report gives you a CLB level on each of them separately, because an overall number hides the one that is actually costing you the level.

writing

  1. 1Content and coherence
  2. 2Vocabulary
  3. 3Readability
  4. 4Task fulfilment

The report quotes the sentences behind each mark — a repeated word under Vocabulary, a paragraph that does not answer the prompt under Task fulfilment — so the fix is specific.

speaking

  1. 1Content and coherence
  2. 2Vocabulary
  3. 3Listenability
  4. 4Task fulfilment

Delivery is measured, not guessed: filler words are counted, speaking rate is computed from the recording, and long pauses are timed. Those feed Listenability alongside pronunciation and rhythm.

Use the first test as a diagnosis, not a rehearsal

1

Sit all four, once, cold

Do not study first. The point of the free test is to find out where you are today, in each skill, under the clock.

2

Find the lowest level

Immigration programmes use the lowest of your four skills, not the average. One weak skill sets your CLB.

3

Compare it with the target

Put the four levels into the CLB calculator to see the programme threshold and what one more level is worth in points.

Questions before you start

Is the marked result my real CELPIP score?

No. It is an estimate made on the criteria the official test publishes, and it is designed to be honest rather than generous. Only Paragon Testing Enterprises marks the real CELPIP. The point of the estimate is to show which criterion and which sentences are costing you a level before the real sitting, not to predict the certificate.

What does the free allowance include?

One timed test in each of the four skills, marked. Reading and Listening are checked against the key; Writing and Speaking are marked on the four official criteria and reported as a CLB level. Full mock exams and further practice tests come with a paid plan; there is no separate free lesson library on this site.

Do I need a microphone?

For Speaking, yes — a laptop microphone or headset is fine. The runner checks that a recording actually contains speech before it is submitted, because an empty or one-second recording cannot be marked. If an upload fails, the attempt is not counted against your allowance.

How long does marking take?

Reading and Listening are marked the moment you submit. Writing and Speaking are usually back in under a minute; the report opens itself when it is ready.

Is this the same format as CELPIP Online?

The tasks, timing and screen layout follow the CELPIP-General test. Whether you sit the official test in a centre or online, the sections and the marking criteria are the same, which is what the practice reproduces.
